Maundy Thursday

March 28 | 6:30 PM

What would it be like to journey with Jesus in his last hours with his disciples gathered around the table in the Upper Room? At this last supper, we gather to focus on each disciple and their story as we learn more about them and each other. Join us in the journey online, on our Facebook or YouTube pages.

Why do we celebrate Maundy Thursday?  On this day, the church remembers the last evening Jesus shared with his disciples in the upper room before his arrest and crucifixion. Maundy Thursday marks three events in Jesus' last week: his washing of his disciples' feet, his institution of the Lord's Supper, and his new commandment to love one another.

Maundy comes from the Latin mandatum novum, and refers to the "new commandment" Jesus taught his disciples (John 13:34). In other words, this is "new commandment Thursday." The loud hosannas of Sunday have faded into oblivion. Jesus has gathered his disciples for the Passover Feast his Last Supper.

Good Friday Tenebrae

March 29 | 6:30 PM

Invite your friends and join us onsite or online Good Friday at 6:30 pm and experience the final hours of Jesus.

View here on our Facebook or YouTube pages. It makes use of gradually diminishing light through the lighting and extinguishing of candles to symbolize the events of that week from the triumphant Palm Sunday entry through Jesus’ burial. This increasing darkness symbolizes the approaching darkness of Jesus’ death and of hopelessness in the world without God.

The word “Tenebrae” comes from the Latin meaning “darkness.” The Tenebrae or Service of Shadows is an ancient Christian Good Friday service.

Easter Sunday is almost here. We remember Jesus’ followers were devastated because of his death on the cross. It seemed the love of God had failed them and life was not what they had expected. It was not until it became clear that Jesus had risen from the grave that hope was restored.

The resurrection of Jesus meets us in our broken lives as well and offers us new life. Easter is a celebration of a God whose love never fails. Join us from home or here as we find rebirth and resurrection in our lives together.

Children are welcomed and encouraged to worship with us at NFUMC!

There are children's bulletins at each entrance to the Sanctuary to use during worship. Children are always welcome in our Sanctuary but we do have a Nursery for infants through age 3.

Our Nursery is available during both of our worship services and during the Sunday school hour. It is located on the second floor of the Education Wing. From the Sanctuary, exit by the rear entrance door on the left side of altar area, turn right, and follow the “nursery” signs. The live stream of worship is also available in the Nursery.

Kids are invited to the front of the sanctuary for a children’s time during both services on most Sundays. Following the children’s time, those in Pre-K through 2nd grade are invited to leave for Children's Church worship activities outside of the sanctuary and return before the end of the service. Kids in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade are offered activity boxes to help them stay focused throughout the sermon.
